A unified, student-centered system would produce the best possible outcome for each individual student, not all students in the aggregate. A better approach would allow us to tailor the administration of tests to the individual needs of the student, and to collect data that benefit that child. A discredited economic model that rewards winners and punishes losers should be replaced with equitable funding systems. To restore balance, we need to focus on improving the human connections that make a successful school an environment for learning.
