This article inspired me to get a move on with some work I am doing for Cape UK who are putting together a booklet of offers to schools embedding creativity at the heart of teaching and learning. A lot of the models being offered under this branding are based upon creating the kind of learners you are discussing here. Might be worth checking it out, so the link is below:

“How do we support students developing as efficacious self-directed, social learners and involve parents as partners in that journey?”
For those wondering how you we can help students feel empowered to take more control of their education! Paula White is a veteran elementary school teacher and one of the best teachers blogging about reflective teaching and learning!
This is great! I definitely feel, as a first year teacher, that I want to maintain a certain level of control in my classroom, but some days I take a step back and realize just how much work I’m making for myself by not allowing kids to do things. When they’re actively engaged and helping one another, they’re learning. I just sometimes assume they’ll do it wrong which is what prevents me from giving them control. I need to maybe ease up on the reins and give them more ownership of their learning so instead of passive learners they’ll be more active learners.
Love to hear how this evolves!
